Ting-Yi Chou, one of my roommates, comes from
Taoyuan County. I think it is very convenient for him to go home, for Taoyuan
is just forty minutes away from Taipei. However, I have to spend two
hours sitting on the train before I arrive at my destination. Besides, I need
to book a ticket in advance so that I can have a seat.
He studies in the department of land
economics, and he likes to play badminton. Sometimes he will invite his friends
and me to play badminton together. Although I am not good at this sport, I can
learn a lot from the tips they give me. By the way, he is also a big fan of
UNI-LIONS (one of the baseball teams in Chinese
Professional Baseball League). A few weeks ago, he even went to Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium to watch a significant
postseason game. Unfortunately, UNI-LIONS lost the game, and LAMIGO-MONKEYS won the championship.
Yeah, the outcome of the game really surprised
ReplyDeleteme, too. I am glad you have a roommate that can teach you skills about badminton. the harmony between one and his/her roommates is very vital.Because we come from different places and gather in a small room. Both side should try to get
used to other's living habits. Although there may be some conflicts, the most important thing is find moderate solutions to solve the problems
. Congratulate you have a nice roommate!!
Hi Guan-Hua Lai,
ReplyDeleteI'm from Taoyuan, too~ I have to admit that compared with you, it took me less effort to get home. I think the forty-minute-distance you mentioned is the distance between Taipei Main Station and Taoyuan Station. But the railway route in Taoyuan wasn't that well developed as it was in Taichung, and there weren't as many buses in Taoyuan as there were in Taichung. All in all, the local communiting network of Taichung seems much better than that of Taoyuan. At least, according to my own experience, travelling in Taichung by public transportation was more convenient than travelling in Taoyuan. (I have had many turnes waiting more than an hour for a bus in my hometown. Yet while exploring Taichung with my younger sister, I never have to worry how I could get home safe and sound haha.)
Anyway, I wish you goodluck in booking the train tickets and I really hope that you can still have a great time here in NCCU despite all the troubles you would have to face when going home.
Sincerely,
Your Classmate, Emily Chiang
Hi Emily Chiang,
DeleteThank you for providing local information. I have never been to Taoyuan before. Since Taoyuan is next to Taipei, I suppose that traveling in Taoyuan is as convenient as other prosperous cities. However, it is not true. Neither is Taichung County. (Note: Taichung County is different from what we called Taichung City now.)There are fewer buses in Taichung County, especially coastal districts, than in original Taichung City. Apparently, there is something left to be handled by the city government.
As for me, I usually walk to my home after getting off the train. Not only because my home is near the train station, but also because I want to see whether my hometown changes or not.
P.S. If you need, we can discuss this issue in the break of English class.
Best wishes,
Your classmate, Guan-Hua Lai
